Layered collage papercraft illustration. About: I was tasked with creating an 8 x 10 illustration based on a metaphor related to joy. "Life is a butterfly" is a phrased used to describe one's path as a happy one. As I got to work, I really had to consider what means to me. What is a butterfly? Fleeting, beautiful, fragile... a joy to discover but always a little disappointing when it flits out of reach. That metaphor for life, for happiness, is how I came to create this illustration. Life is a Butterfly... life is fragile, fleeting, beautiful... and yet a delight when you stop trying to catch the butterfly and let joy flit in and out of your life without expectation. It's this mindset, (joy is fleeting, but beautiful for it) that you peer through a butterfly-shaped break in the autumn trees and at life.
